McNeese State's Brant Linde and Lindsey Petzold have been named Southand Conference scholar athletes of the year in their respective sports.

Linde, a junior from Mandeville, was named the league's scholar athlete of the year in football and Petzold, a recent graduate from Paige, TX, was named the SLC's scholar athlete in volleyball.

Both athletes had been named to all-SLC academic teams.

Linde, who is a starting free safety in football, was also selected a CoSIDA academic all-American this past season. He ranked second on the team in tackles for 2007 with 98 and intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown.

Petzold set a school career record for block assists with 302.
