Volleyball Teams Falls To Central Arkansas In Five Game Match
Nov. 3, 2007 LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's volleyball team suffered its first home loss of the season here Saturday afternoon to Central Arkansas in a five game Southland Conference match by the scores of 24-30, 30-26, 30-28, 22-30, 11-15. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 16-13 overall and 9-5 in league play. After dropping the first game 24-30, McNeese came back to take a 2-1 overall match lead by winning the second and third games. The Cowgirls had a chance to close out the match but came out playing flat in game four. Central Arkansas jumped out to a 6-2 lead and the Cowgirls never recovered as they hit a game low .127 on 55 attempts while UCA hit .294 for the game. The closest McNeese would get in the game was 21-26 on a Jennifer Cook kill. Central Arkansas would go on to outscore the Cowgirls 4-1 to win the game and send the match to a fifth and deciding game. In the fifth game, McNeese took a 1-0 lead on an Alyson Jones kill but a Cowgirl serving error tied the game 1-1. McNeese took a 4-2 lead on kills from Lindsey Petzold and Chanel Tyler. UCA cut the Cowgirl lead to 4-3 on a Evaree Franklin kill and tied the game 4-4 on a service ace by Kelly Bence. The Lady Bears extended its lead to 6-4 on a McNeese attacking error and held 10-5 lead on a Choloe Evans service ace. The Cowgirls would make a comeback to cut the lead to 10-12 on a Jones kill but UCA would go on to outscore the Cowgirls 3-1 to win game five 15-11 and the match. McNeese committed 22 hitting errors and 13 service errors in the match and UCA was credited with 16 block assists. Despite the loss, McNeese had five players record double figure kills with Tyler recording a double-double with 15 kills and 23 digs. Also collecting double figure kills for the Cowgirls was Jones with 14, Petzold with 13, Jennifer Cook and Lindsey Brooks both had 12, respectively. Jessica Strama led the Cowgirls with 26 digs and Sarah Cartie had 54 assists. Central Arkansas was led by Chloe Smith's game high 27 kills. Camila Scapini and Franklin had 17 apiece. Scapini also had a match high five block assists. Robyn Smith led all players with a match high 58 assists to go with her 14 digs. Kelly Bence led all players with a match high 36 digs. |
