Volleyball Team Defeats Northwestern State In Straight Sets

LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's volleyball team defeated Northwestern State for the second time this season with a three game (30-18, 30-17, 30-18) Southland Conference victory here Friday night to remain undefeated at home with an 8-0 record. The Cowgirls improved to 16-12 overall and 9-4 in league play.

McNeese took control of the match from the opening serve and never looked back. The Cowgirls jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening game of the match on kills by Chanel Tyler, Sarah Cartie and Lindsey Petzold and a service ace by Jessica Strama. The Cowgirls extended their lead to 13-6 behind the service of Lindsay Brooks and held a 21-14 lead after two NW State errors. McNeese went on to outscore the Demons 9-4 to take the game.

In the second game, Northwestern State held a 3-1 lead after a Yelena Enwere kill. Alyson Jones' kill cut the Demon lead to 3-2 and Enwere committed back to back errors to give McNeese a 4-3 lead. McNeese scored the next three points for a 7-3 lead and held a 18-9 lead on a kill by Petzold. Chanel Tyler recorded one of her match high 11 kills to give McNeese a 19-10 lead before the Cowgirls went on to win the match 30-17 on a NW State service error.

After the break, McNeese jumped out to a 3-0 lead and extended its lead to 10-6 on a Tyler kill. McNeese then held a 20-15 lead behind the serve of Deanna Sanchez. Lindsay Brooks and Tyler were credited with kills in two of three serves by Sanchez.

McNeese extended its lead to 29-18 on kills by Brooks, Jones and Vasser. Reserve Amber Click ended the game and the match on a jump serve ace.

Tyler was the only Cowgirlto record double figure kills with 11. Strama led all players with 20 digs and Brooks was credited with 11. Cartie led all players with 32 assists and Cook was credited with four block assists.

McNeese returns to action today to host Central Arkansas in a 4 p.m. match.
