Volleyball Team Defeats Prairie View In Straight Sets To Remain Undefeated At Home

LAKE CHARLES-- Amanda Allen led all players with a match high 14 kills as McNeese State defeated Prairie View A&M in a 3-0 straight set victory here Wednesday night in a non-conference volleyball match by the scores of 30-22, 30-27, 30-22. The victory keeps the Cowgirls undefeated at home at 7-0 and 15-12 overall.

McNeese took the lead in the opening game but Prairie View came back to tie the game seven all. Jessica Strama served for six straight points to give McNeese a 12-8 lead and from this point on the Cowgirls never trailed and went on to win the opening game 30-22.

In the second game, with the game tied 8-8, Prairie View committed a service error to give the Cowgirls a 9-8 lead. McNeese took a 11-9 lead behind the service of Katie Breazeale. After Prairie View cut the Cowgirl lead to 15-14 on a Cowgirl error, McNeese held a 22-17 lead on kils by Allen and Amber Click. McNeese extended its lead to 27-24 lead on a Breazeale kill and a Prairie View error. Ayshin Vasser ended the game on a kill on a Sarah Cartie assist.

After the break, Prairie View took a 2-1 lead in the third game before Allen gave McNeese a 6-2 lead. During the scoring run, Allen put down three service aces in five service attempts. McNeese extended its lead to 16-8 on a Breazeale kill and from this point on the Cowgirls coasted before Cartie ended the game and the match on a kill. Cartie led all players with 29 assists. Strama and Cartie both collected double figure digs with Strama leading all players with 25 and Cartie adding 10.

McNeese returns to Southland Conference play this weekend when the Cowgirls host Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Friday night and Central Arkansas at 4 p.m. Saturday.
