Volleyball Defeats Sam Houston State In Five Games
Oct. 28, 2007 HUNTSVILLE, Texas- McNeese State's volleyball team improved to 14-12 overall and 8-4 in the Southland Conference with a five game victory (30-26, 30-22, 24-30, 27-30, 15-10) here Saturday afternoon over Sam Houston State. In the opening game, McNeese trailed 15-16. Amanda Allen went on a serving spree to help McNeese score six straight point to take a 21-16 lead. After Sam Houston State came back to cut the Cowgirl lead to 24-23, McNeese won six out of the final nine points to win the game. In the second game, the Cowgirls took a 14-9 lead and never looked back as they went on to take a commanding 2-0 game lead. After the break, the third game was back and forth and consisted of nine ties and five lead changes. After taking a 18-17 lead, Sam Houston State went on to take the third game by the score of 30-24. The fourth game was almost like the third game with four ties but after a 25-25 tie, Sam Houston State held on to the lead and won the next five points to send the match into a deciding fifth game. In the deciding game of the match and with the score tied 4-4, Lindsay Brooks gave the Cowgirls a 7-4 lead on her serve. After Sam Houston State cut the Cowgirl lead to 8-7, McNeese went on to win seven of the final 11 points to win the game and the match. Alyson Jones led the Cowgirls who had four players record double digit kills with 21 kills and a .375 hitting percent while Chanel Tyler added 17 kills. Setter Sarah Cartie led with 62 assists, Jessica Strama collected 28 digs and Lindsey Petzold had four block assists. McNeese will play three home matches this week beginning Wednesday, Oct. 31 when they host Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. McNeese will return to Southland Conference play on the weekend when they will host Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Friday and Central Arkansas at 4 p.m. Saturday. |
