Volleyball Team Defeats Texas State In Thrilling Five Game Match

LAKE CHARLES- McNeese State's volleyball team remained undefeated at home (5-0) with a thrilling five game Southland Conference victory over Texas State here Saturday by the scores of 18-30, 30-23, 30-19, 23-30, 15-9 to improve to 12-11 overall and 6-3 in league play.

McNeese dropped the first game before coming back to take a 2-1 lead with wins in games two and three. McNeese let an early lead in game four slip away after holding a 13-9 lead. Texas State scored six consecutive points to take a 15-13 lead. From this point on, the Bobcats never lost the lead in the game and won it by a score of 30-23, sending the match to a deciding fifth game.

In the fifth game, McNeese took a quick 5-0 lead behind the service of Jessica Strama and kills by Lindsay Brooks, Lindsey Petzold and Sarah Cartie.

After a kill by Texas State, Brooks and Alyson Jones gave McNeese a 7-1 lead. Jones extended the Cowgirl lead to 8-4 on a kill.

After two Texas State errors and a kill by McNeese's Jennifer Cook, the Cowgirls held a 11-7 lead. From this point on, the Cowgirls outscored the Bobcats 4-2, and went on to win the match on a Texas State hitting error.

Lindsay Brooks Records 14 kills, 12 digs and a .464 hitting percent


Three Cowgirls recorded double figure kills with Chanel Tyler leading all players with 19 kills. Jones added 15 kills and a .308 attack percent and Brooks collected 14 kills, 12 digs and led the Cowgirls with a .464 hitting percent. Cartie led all players with 47 assists while Strama led with 27 digs.

Petzold, who needed four block assists heading into the match to become McNeese State's all-time career leader was credited with two in the match. She will get the opportunity to break the record this Tuesday night when the Cowgirls host Lamar at 7 p.m.
