Cowgirls Defeat Nicholls State In Straight Sets Here Saturday Afternoon

LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's volleyball team defeated Nicholls State 3-0 here Saturday afternoon to improve to 10-11 overall and 4-3 in league play. With the victory, the Cowgirls remain undefeated at home with a 3-0 record. The straight set victory was the second consecutive for the Cowgirls who defeated Southeastern La. 3-0 Friday night.

McNeese dominated the match and cut down on hitting errors. McNeese committed only seven errors in 110 attempts for a .355 hitting percent. Nine of the Cowgirl points came on service aces.

McNeese took the early lead in the first two games and never looked back. Lindsay Brooks closed out the first game with one of her seven kills on the day. With a 22-9 lead in the second game, McNeese outscored Nicholls State 8-5 and closed out the match on a kill by Sarah Cartie and two Nicholls State hitting errors.

In the final game, McNeese held a 17-9 lead then extended its lead to 22-10 behind the serving of Jessica Strama who served for four consecutive points. Nicholls State would cut into the Cowgirl lead to trail 25-15 but Lindsey Petzold would serve for four of the Cowgirls' final five points of the game. Behind Petzold's serving, McNeese extended its lead to 29-15 lead before a service error by Petzold gave Nicholls State the ball. Jennifer Cook then put down a kill on a Cartie assists for the game winning point.

Senior Middle Blocker Lindsey Petzold Needs Nine Block Assists To Become McNeese's Career Leader


Once again outside hitter Alyson Jones led all players with a match high 12 kills. Cartie led all players with 29 assists, Strama led the Cowgirls with 15 digs and Petzold was credited with five blocks including four block assists.
