Volleyball Team Defeats Southeastern La. In SLC Opener

HAMMOND-- McNeese State's volleyball team began its quest to repeat as East Division Champions here Friday night with a 3-0 straight set victory over Southeastern La. by the scores of 30-22, 30-19, 30-20. With the victory McNeese improved to 7-7 overall.

Senior Lindsey Petzold moved into the Top 5 in McNeese's block assists leaders. Petzold recorded her only block assists of the match in the third game to give the Cowgirls a 6-1 lead. Petzold now has 256 career block assists.

Chanel Tyler and Lindsay Brooks led the Cowgirls with eight kills apiece while Jennifer Cook and Petzold both had seven kills apiece. Petzold also ended the match with a match high .538 hitting percent. She was credited with 13 attempts and was error free. Petzold was also credited with two service aces and two digs.

Other Cowgirl leaders in the match were Sarah Cartie with a match high 32 assists and Jessica Strama led all players with 13 digs. Also collecting double figure digs was Brooks with 11 and Tyler with 10. McNeese will continue league play this afternoon with a 3 p.m. match at Nicholls State.
