Volleyball Team Drops Matches To Illinois-Chicago and North Dakota State

CHICAGO, Illinois-- McNeese Staate's volleyball team dropped two hard fought matches here Saturday at the Illinois-Chicago Tournament. McNeese lost a five game match to host Illinois-Chicago (30-27, 23-30, 25-30, 30-26, 11-15) before falling to North Dakota State in four games (27-30 30-28, 25-30, 26-30).

In the loss to Illinois-Chicago, four Cowgirls posted double figure kills led by Alyson Jones' 22. Jennifer Cook was credited with 12 and Ayshin Vasser and Deanna Sanchez collected 10, respectively.

Setter Sarah Cartie led the Cowgirls with 55 assists and added 18 digs. Libero Jessica Strama led all players with 26 digs to go along with three service aces. Lindsey Petzold led the Cowgirls with five service aces and five blocks.

Jones also led the Cowgirls with 18 kills in the loss to North Dakota State. Chanel Tyler was the only other Cowgirl to record double figure kills in the match with 10. Sarah Cartie recorded a double-double with 43 assists and 26 digs. Jessica Strama recorded 30 digs. Strama recorded over 30 or more digs in two of the three matches this weekend. She was credited with 31 against Elon on Friday.

McNeese (4-6) will host Louisiana-Lafayette this Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym on campus in its home opener.
