Volleyball Team Drops 3-2 Match To Troy At The Samford Barber's Bulldog Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama-- McNeese State's volleyball team fell to 2-4 on the season here Sunday with a hard fought five game loss to Troy at the Samford Barber's Bulldog Classic by the scores of 30-18, 21-30, 30-22, 27-30, 12-15.

McNeese took a 2-1 lead following the third game with a 30-18 victory in the opening game of the match and a 30-22 win in the third game but was unable to pull off one of the final two games of the match to win the match. The Cowgirls dropped the second game of the match 30-21 and Troy held on to win the fourth game 30-27 to send the match to a deciding fifth game. Troy won the final game 15-12 and the overall match.

Jennifer Cook and Alyson Jones led the Cowgirls with 17 kills apiece while Sarah Cartie led all players with 59 assists. Ayshin Vasser led the Cowgirls with a .438 hitting percent on eight kills, one error in 16 attempts. Jessica Strama led all players with 22 digs, increasing her career total to 1,608. The senior from Lemont, IL. needs 94 digs to become McNeese State's all-time career leader.

The Cowgirls will travel to Chicago this weekend to take part in the University of Chicago-Illinois Tournament. McNeese will face Elon on Friday and Illinois-Chicago and North Dakota State on Saturday.
