  Dale Starr

Dale Starr

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
5th Season

Dale Starr is in his fourth season as head coach of the Cowgirls. Starr took over a successful program in 2004 and has continued that success for the past three seasons.

Last season, Starr guided the Cowgirls to a 15-14 overall record and a East Division championship and a second place finish overall in the Southland Conference with a 12-4 record. McNeese advanced to the SLC postseason tournament for the third straight year under Starr's guidance, 11th consecutive and 24th overall for the program.

In his first season as a collegiate head coach, he guided the Cowgirls to a 18-11 overall record and a fourth place tie in the Southland Conference with a 12-8 record. McNeese continued its Southland Conference Tournament appearances with its 22nd overall and ninth consecutive in 2004.

Starr won his first postseason tournament match with a victory over Texas-San Antonio before bowing out to regular season co-champion Stephen F. Austin.

Starr produced three all-Southland Conference picks in Nicole James, Trisha Seale and Jessica Strama. Seale also garnered the league's "Newcomer of the Year", only the second for the Cowgirl program. James picked up the programs first and the league's second national honor by picking up the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National "Player of the Week" during the season.

Prior coming to McNeese, Starr spent the 2003 season as an assistant coach at Tennessee-Martin. Prior to his one-year stint at Tennessee-Martin, he served as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Boise State University.

From 1999-2002, Starr headed the volleyball program at Mississippi University for Women. Here he ran a one-man show where he had no assistant coaches. He was in charge of all aspects of the program including recruiting, budget, travel, scheduling, academic progress and on-court coaching. He posted a career 50-47 record and produced two winning seasons while coaching six All-Gulf South Conference players and three first team academic All-Americans. His 1999 team finished third in the GSC West Division and earned a berth in the GSC Tournament for the first time since 1996.

Starr began his collegiate coaching career at Tennessee-Martin in 1998 as the only assistant on the staff. The team set school records for wins in a season (15) and conference wins in a season (8).

Prior to his collegiate debut, Starr made stops at Eagle Valley (Colorado) High and Highland High, Colorado Extreme Volleyball Club Team and volunteer assistant at his alma mater, University of Northern Colorado.

While at Eagle Valley High, Starr produced a 15-7 record in 1997 and was named the Western Slope "Coach of the Year".

At Highland, Starr produced a 29-5 record in 1995 and finished as the Class 3A runners-up.

Starr coached the U14 Gold Club Team to a third place finish in the Rocky Mountain in 1994 and 1995 and coached the U18 Gold Team to a fifth place finish in 1996.

Starr was a four year starter for the University of Northern Colorado's men's club team from 1992-1996. As the starting setter, Starr led his teams to two ninth place finishes and one fifth place finish at the NIRSA National Club Tournament. Starr and his wife, Michelle, have two daughters, Kalee and Madison.
