Softball Program Signs Five For 2009 Season
Nov. 27, 2007
McNeese State's softball team signed five players to letters of intent for the 2009 season during the early signing period. The signees include pitchers Tiffany Denham and Stephanie Loge, catcher Kristy King, third base/utility Danielle Price and outfielder Kelly Lindley. Denham keeps the family history of players to come through the Cowgirl program by signing with the Cowgirls. Older sisters Stephenie and Jessica both played for the Cowgirls while brother-in-law Shonz LaFrenz spent his collegiate career as a member of the football team. Stephenie played from 2001-03 and was an all-conference shortstop in 2003. Jessica played for the Cowgirls from 2003-06 and is a four time all-SLC selection. Denham, from Alvin, TX. and attended Alvin High, is a four year softball letterwinner and lettered one year in volleyball. She was part of a team that was district champs and made it to the regional finals in 2007. "Tiffany is well aware of what it takes to be a Division I athlete. She will do great things on the mound for us during her collegiate career," said head coach Chris Malveaux. Loge, a native of Splendora, TX, attended Splendora High where she produced a 31-2 overall record in 2006 with 225 strikeouts, six perfect games. The two-time district MVP produced a .081 ERA last season. She has also led her team to the 2006 district championships and was a regional quarter finals. That same year, Loge was named to the all-state team. "Stephanie will be a huge asset for us in the circle. She brings a lot of leadership and competitiveness to our program along with her ability to dominate opposing hitters. We are thrilled and fortunate to have her." King hails from Sequoya High in Canton, Georgia where she was a four year letterwinner and a member of two state championship teams. She also earned all-county and all-region honores as well. She is also a member of the soccer team as a goalkeeper. "It isn't often that you find a catcher at Kristy's age with the mechanics she possesses. Her presence behind the plate is irreplaceable." Price, a native of Humble, TX. has been a starter for Kingwood High for the past four years. She led her team in stolen bases and home runs. "Danielle is a very versatile athlete and may be asked to play different positions for us. She comes in with the full package both offensively and defensively and a work ethic you rarely see anymore." Lindley, from Spring, TX., attended Klein Collins High where she was a two time all-district selection and team captain as well as a member of one district championship team. Kelly's knowledge of the game and leadership ability is every bit as important as her ability to perform on the field. She not only will be a great addition to our program but a great representative for our university." "I am very pleased with our 2009 signees. We try to bring in student-athletes who will not only shine on the field but who are also of good character and well rounded. We are confident we have accomplished just that and are excited for them to join our McNeese family. This class will definitely get us going in the right direction." 2009 Signees Tiffany Denham, P, Alvin, TX. (Alvin High) Stephanie Loge, P, Splendora, TX. (Splendora High) Kristy King, C, Canton, GA.
