Clay and King named to SLC academic softball team

McNeese State's Rachel King and Jenny Clay have been named to the 2008 Capital One Southland Conference academic softball team.

King, a native of Willis, TX , produced a 3.50 grade point average in mathematics and Clay, from Arnaudville, posted a 3.08 gpa in health performance.

Both were recently named to the all-Louisiana softball team.

Clay, a catcher, earned the first McNeese State and second Southland Conference Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week honor (week ending March 30, 2008) in her senior campaign. She is a four time All-Southland Conference, two-time Southland Conference Utility Player of the Year and SLC All-Tournament. Clay led McNeese State in seven offensive categories including batting average, slugging percent, on base percent, hits and doubles this season and tied for a team high in RBIs and home runs. She anked in the Top 5 in nine Southland Conference categories, leading the SLC in doubles and ranked 44th in the nation in doubles per game. She ended her playing career ranked nationally in batting average and stolen bases also. This season, Clay she had 18 multiple hit games and eight multiple RBI games and produced the Cowgirls' longest hitting streak of 14 games.

King, a designated player, was second on the team with a .292 batting average, third in on base percent, fourth in slugging percent. King produced the second longest hitting streak on the team at 11 and had three multiple RBI games and seven multiple hit games. King is also a two time All-Southland Conference selection.
