Chris Malveaux resigns as McNeese State softball coach

May 12, 2008

McNeese State softball coach Chris Malveaux has resigned.

His resignation is effective June 30.

McNeese athletic director Tommy McClelland announced the resignation adding that the university will immediately begin a nation wide search for a new Cowgirl head coach.

"We appreciate the efforts of Coach Malveaux here at McNeese and we wish him well in his future endeavors. Our softball program is one with a lot of potential especially with the current facility updates (Hodges Street complex) and the field itself."

Malveaux just completed his fourth season as head coach of the Cowgirls, his team posting a 23-36 won-lost record and placing fifth in the conference standings.

His overall coaching record was 108-133 and his 2005 team won the Southland Conference tournament title and participated in the NCAA regionals. That team had a 34-35 record and his 2007 squad posted a 30-32 mark.

Prior to becoming the Cowgirl head coach, Malveaux had served as assistant coach for two seasons.
