Cowgirls Travel Louisiana-Lafayette Tonight

April 8, 2008

McNeese State's softball team (15-28) will travel to nationally ranked Louisiana-Lafayette (27-10) tonight for a 6 p.m. non-conference game. The Cajuns are ranked 18th in the USA Today/NFCA poll and 21st in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 this week. The game is the second between the two teams this season, ULL defeated McNeese 12-0 in Lake Charles on Feb. 20.

The Cowgirls will be looking to get back into the win column after dropping a three game Southland Conference series at Texas-Arlington last weekend.

Senior catcher Jenny Clay continues to lead the Cowgirls with a .378 batting average, .649 slugging percent with 42 hits, 13 doubles and 28 runs scored. The native of Arnaudville is tied for a team high five home runs and is third on the team with 20 RBI's.

Junior pitcher Michelle LaVoie leads the pitching staff with eight victories and innings pitched with 111 1/3 innings. LaVoie is second on the team with 40 strikeouts.

Junior Bethany Stefinsky leads the Cowgirls with 45 strikeouts in 59 innings pitched.

The Cowgirls will return to Southland Conference play this weekend to host Southeastern La. in a three game series. A 4 p.m. doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
