Cowgirls Host Stephen F. Austin In SLC Series

McNeese State's softball team (7-22, 2-4 SLC) returns to Southland Conference action today when the Cowgirls host Stephen F. Austin in a three-game series.

A 4 p.m. doubleheader is scheduled for today with the series concluding with a single game beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Cowgirls are coming off an appearance in the Oklahoma Worth Invitational where the Cowgirls fell 6-1 to nationally ranked Oklahoma.

Senior Jenny Clay continues to lead the Cowgirls at the plate with a .326 batting average with seven doubles, two home runs and nine RBi's.

Pitcher Michelle LaVoie leads the staff with five victories, 30 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched. LaVoie has also been productive at the plate with a .277 batting average and leads the Cowgirls with 20 RBI's.

The Ladyjacks are coming off a strong showing in the Oklahoma State Mizuno Classic over the weekend. SFA swept the round-robin portion of the tournament, knocking off Centenary, 8-0, Oklahoma State, 1-0, and Texas Wesleyan, 13-2.

The Ladyjacks are 15-11 on the season and 2-1 in SLC play. Sophomore Kendal Harper leads the team with her .430 batting average. Her seven doubles and 15 RBI are also tops on the squad.

Freshman Monika Covington continues to pace a solid pitching staff. Covington has a 1.32 ERA and a 9-4 record with four complete-game shutouts. Her 84 strikeouts lead the team. As a staff, the Ladyjacks have compiled a 2.36 ERA with 145 strikeouts on the season.
