Box Score

LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's softball team fell 4-1 in its home finale to Texas State here Sunday afternoon. The Cowgirls will enter this week's Southland Conference Tournament as the fifth seed and will face eighth seed Southeastern La. at 11 a.m. in the opening game of the Southland Conference Tournament in San Marcos, Texas.

The eight team tournament is a single elimination tournament with the winner earning the NCAA automatic berth. Fans can purchase day passes for $10 or tournament passes for $25. Texas State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Ashton Peters singled with two outs and scored on a triple to center by Kristina Tello. The Bobcats added three more runs in the sixth for a 4-0 lead. Peters led the inning off with a double, Tello singled and Jill Kloesel singled, scoring Keller. Alex Newton then singled to score Tello followed by a McKenzie Baack single that scored Kloesel.

Megan Beard

McNeese avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the seventh and failed to score more runs with the bases loaded. Senior Jenny Clay led the inning off with her second hit of the game. After Holly Long struck out looking, senior Megan Beard singled, advancing Clay to third. A single by Rachel King scored Clay. After a fly out to left by Molly Guidry for the second out, Whitney Corbello was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The game ended on a strikeout by Tiffany Ritchie to end the game.

Carmen Sittig

Clay and Beard, who were honored following the game both led the Cowgirls with two hits in three at bats. Carmen Sittig, the other Cowgirl senior did see playing time as a pinch runner in the sixth.

Bethany Stefinsky picked up the loss, falling to 8-12 on the year. Stefinsky gave up eight hits and struck out eight in the complete game.

Texas State was led by Peters who was 3 for 3 with a double and scored one run. Ragan Blake improved to 16-3 on the year with the complete game victory. Blake struck out nine and walked two.
