Softball Drops Final Game Of SLC Series To UT-Arlington

ARLINGTON, Tx.-- McNeese State's softball team dropped the final game of a Southland Conference series to Texas-Arlington here Sunday by a 4-2 score. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 15-28 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Texas-Arlington improved to 18-16 overall and 12-9 in conference play.

Texas-Arlington's Amanda Swofford continued her home run festival with a solo homer in the second inning. The home run was Swofford's third of the series. UTA added another run in the inning when April Clougherty scored on a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead.

After three and a half of scoreless innings, UTA added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by Amanda Brown that scored Kristin Moore and a RBI single by Brittany Stevens that scored Brittany Washington to extend the Maverick lead to 4-0.

McNeese attempted to make a comeback in the top of the seventh with two runs on three hits. Rachel King led the inning off with a double to left and Chelsea Jones who came in to pinch run for King scored on a RBI double by Molly Guidry. A single by Katie Shumaker scored Guidry for the second Cowgirl run. Whitney Corbello struck out for the first out and Lindsey Langner, who came in to pinch run for Shumaker was thrown out at second on a Tiffany Ritchie fielder's choice for the second out. The game ended on a Jenny Clay ground out to shortstop.
