Cowgirls Drop SLC Doubleheader At Texas-Arlington
April 5, 2008 ARLINGTON, Tx.-- McNeese State's softball team dropped a Southland Conference doubleheader to Texas-Arlington here Saturday by the scores of 10-1 and 10-0. The losses snap the Cowgirls' three game winning streak. The series will conclude with a single game at noon today. cNeese (15-27, 8-9 SLC) gave up runs early in both games and couldn't make a comeback in either one. The Cowgirls stumbled out the blocks in the opening game of series and gave up three runs on two hits and one error in the first inning as UTA took a 3-0 lead. The Maverick's added four more runs in the third on three hits to extend its lead to 7-0. The Cowgirls scored their only run of the day in the fourth on a triple by Molly Guidry and then a RBI single by Rachel King for a 7-1 UTA lead. The game ended due to the mercy rule when UTA added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-1 lead. The Cowgirls were held scoreless in the fifth. McNeese didn't help their cause by leaving six base runner's stranded. Michelle LaVoie was on the losing end of game one after giving up seven runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings. LaVoie was credited with two strikeouts. Reliever Candace Duhon gave up three runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. In the nightcap, UTA scored all its runs on the long ball. The Maverick's took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an Amanda Swofford solo homer. After a Whitney Simpson solo home run in the fifth, Swofford extended the Maverick lead to 6-0 with a two out grand slam for her second home run in the game. UTA ended the game on another grand slam, this one came on the bat of Rebecca Collom. Cowgirl starter Bethany Stefinsky took the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits with six strike outs. Carmen Sittig came in to relive Stefinsky and gave up four runs on one hit in one inning of work. Like the first game, McNeese left six base runners stranded. |
