LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese State's softball team dropped the final game of its Southland Conference series to Stephen F. Austin today by a 5-1 score. Stephen F. Austin won the overall series 3-0 with its doubleheader victory on Saturday.

McNeese (10-22, 2-10) trailed 3-1 after the second inning when the Ladyjacks scored three runs on a Tara Hersey three run homer. McNeese scored its only run of the game in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homerun by Jenny Clay to begin the inning.

Stephen F. Austin added two more runs in the sixth on a two RBI double by Carrie Woydziak. SFA improved to 12-20 overall and 4-8 in the SLC.

Clay and Courtney Parks collected the only Cowgirl hits in the game with two apiece. Jessica Denham (5-14) went the distance, picking up the loss in the complete game. Denham gave up nine hits and struck out six.

McNeese returns to Southland Conference action this week to host Louisiana-Monroe in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday and a single game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
