McNeese State's Women's soccer team recently won the Inaugural Louisiana Cup Challenge held in Lafayette. This event was the first of its kind for collegiate women's soccer in the state of Louisiana. We invited all of the NCAA Division 1 women's soccer teams in Louisiana to participate in this event. Six schools agreed to participate this year and we are certain we will see this event grow in the future. It was a very positive weekend for all of women's soccer in the state as each team had the opportunity to showcase its talents in a very exciting venue. The Louisiana College Cup was held in conjunction with the Lagniappe Youth Soccer Tournament hosted by the Cajun Soccer Club of Lafayette, LA. We really appreciate their efforts to host and the work of Dave Lapeyrouse to help organize this event. The schools participating in the LA Cup were McNeese, Northwestern State, Grambling, Louisiana- Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech. At the end of the day, McNeese was crowned the Louisiana Cup champions."It is an honor to have our schools name engraved on the trophy as we get to hold for a year or until a new champion is crowned," said head coach Scooter Savoie."I was very optimistic about what our players could accomplish going into the LA Cup as they continue to develop together. Our training theme this spring is "Good is the Enemy." We challenged our team earlier in the week to do a better job demonstrating their competitive instincts and to improve their leadership in pressure situations. We are extremely proud that they responded remarkably well to bring home another Championship".
