Women's Golf Team Travels To South Alabama

March 2, 2008

McNeese State's women's golf team will travel to Mobile, Alabama today to take part in the 18 team South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational at Azalea City Golf Course. The tournament will tee off with a 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Cowgirls will enter the tournament after coming off a fifth place finish at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic last weekend.

Maggie Welch and Jennifer Herrmann will lead the Cowgirls into the tournament. Welch has a 77.2 stroke averaged while Jennifer Herrmann is right behind with 77.3 average. Lacy McKinley has a 79.7 average, Jacy Reynods has a 82.0 average, Mandi Hamilton has a 84.7 average and Randi Fischer has a 85.8 average.

Other team besides South Alabama and McNeese taking part in the tournament are East Tennessee State, Middle Tennessee State University, Winthrop, Lamar, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Monroe, Samford, Kennesaw State, Southern Miss, Belmont, Jackson State, Nicholls State, Arkansas State, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Troy and Austin Peay.

The 2008 field is one of the strongest fields to ever make up the Jaquar Invitational. Five teams rank in the Top 101 in the nation. East Tennessee State is the highest ranked team in the field at 51st, Middle Tennessee State is ranked 75th, Lamar is ranked 98th and Winthrop is ranked 101. The Lady Jaquars are ranked 91st by Golfweek magazine.
