Women's Golf Finishes In 7th Place Tie

MOBILE, Al.-- McNeese State's women's golf team tied for seventh place with Arkansas State here Tuesday on the final day of the South Alabama Lady Jaquar Invitational. The Cowgirls entered the day in 13th place in the 20 team tournament after shooting a 312 on Monday. The Cowgirls shot a 302 on Tuesday for a 614 tournament total.

Middle Tennessee State held on to its lead and won the team title with a 591, fourteen shots better than second place Jacksonville State. Middle Tennessee's Taryn Durham was the individual medalist with a 142. Durham shot an opening round of 74 on Monday and a four-under par 68 on Tuesday.

Tinna Johannsdottir was the Cowgirls' top finisher, finishing in a 12th place tie with a 149. After yesterday's round of 77, Johanndottir came back to shoot a career low round of even 72 on Tuesday. Other Cowgirls finishers were Trista Touchette (t24) with a 152.

Touchette had the best tournament of her young career. After shooting her second best career low round of 77 on Monday, Touchette followed that with a career best low round of 75 Tuesday. Sara Ekermann was consistent during the tournament with 77's on both days for a 154, ending in a 34th place tie. Maggie Welch tied for 63rd with a 159. Welch shot a 78 on Tuesday after a first round 81. Rounding out the scoring for the Cowgirls was Lacy McKinley who tied for 93rd place with a 167. McKinley shot an 83 on Monday and a 84 on Tuesday.

McNeese will take part in the Lamar Tournament next week at the Beaumont Country Club.
