Cowgirls Place Fifth In Own Invitational

Results

KINDER-- McNeese State's women's golf team finished in fifth place in its own Cowgirl Spring Invitational here Tuesday at Koasati Pines Golf Course. The Cowgirls shot 316 in the final round for a tournament total of 955.

South Alabama held on to its day one lead to win the team title with a one shot victory over second place Lamar. The Jaguars shot a 310 in the final round for a 932 tournament total. Lamar shot a low tournament round of 305 here Tuesday but fell short of the title with a tournament total of 933.

Sam Houston State finished third at 945 and Central Arkansas placed fourth at 952.

Texas State followed the Cowgirls with a sixth place finish (959) followed by UL-Monroe (971), Arkansas State (973), Nicholls State (989), McClennan Community College (994) and Troy (1003).

Lamar's Therese Nilsson won the individual medalist with a two shot victory over South Alabama's Elin Andersson. Andersson held a two shot lead over Nilsson after Monday's rounds. Nilsson came back on the final day to post a one over par 73 and a 223 tournament total. Anderson shot a 77 on the final day and ended the tournament at 225.

Sara Ekermann


Tinna Johannsdottir and Sara Ekermann led the Cowgirls as both players finished in a tie for 13th place with 236's. After shooting 78-81 in the first two rounds, both players shot a 78 in the final round. Other Cowgirl finishers had Lacy McKinley finishing in 23rd place with a 241, Maggie Welch finished 31st at 245 and Trista Touchette finished tied for 33rd place with at 248. McKinley also shot a 78 in the final round while Welch shot an 82 and Touchette shot a 83 in the final round.

Hannah Bagwell, Jennifer Herrmann, Kate Machado and Jacy Reynolds all played as individuals.

Bagwell finished the tournament tied for 24th with a 242, Herrmann tied for 36th place at 249, Machado placed 49th with a tournament total of 258 and Reynolds finished in 52nd place with a 264.

McNeese's next action will be at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tournament next Monday and Tuesday.
