Junior Courtnee' Hollins Named Team MVP At Annual Awards Banquet
 
 
Courtnee Hollins Named Women's Basketball Most Valuable Player

LAKE CHARLES-- Junior guard Courtnee' Hollins was named the 2007-08 F.E. Salter Most Valuable Player here Thursday night at the Cowgirls' annual awards banquet.

The native of Grant, led the Cowgirls and ranked fourth in the Southland Conference in scoring with 15.3 ppg. overall and 18.5 ppg. in Southland Conference play. Hollins scored 30 or more points twice this season and shot 33.5 percent from three-point range. She set a new McNeese State single season consecutive free throw record by making 37 in a row. She was named the league's player of the week twice and Louisiana Player of the Week once and earned All-Southland Conference second team honors.

Senior Reeshimah Davis was presented the Frances T. King Memorial rebound award after leading the Cowgirls with 5.5 rpg. She led the Cowgirls in rebounding 13 times this season and recorded 10 or more twice. She grabbed a career high 20 in the Cowgirls' double overtime victory over Centenary.

Senior Lenissa Lopez was awarded the Donna Bertrand "All That I Can Be" award, an award given to the player who exemplifies inspiration and a will to do whatever it takes to succeed. Lopez has fought through injuries throughout her career and had the best season of her career this season. She ended the season leading the Cowgirls with 3.5 assists per game, ranked second in the SLC and ranked nationally in assists/turnover ratio. She dished out a career high 11 victories against Lamar and ended the season making her last 12 free throws.

Senior Brittany Boone was presented with the Coaches Award after averaging 10.4 ppg. overall and 11.7 ppg. in league play. Boone recorded two double-doubles and scored in double figures in 10 of the last 13 games and 13 of the last 17 games. She grabbed an individual season high 14 rebounds against Nicholls State and dished out a career high seven assists against Sam Houston State. She was named Southland Conference Player of the Week once this season.

Other awards presented were the Newcomer of the Year which went to Southwest Mississippi Community College transfer Conceita Cutrer. Cutrer was also presented the defensive award. Hollins was presented the offensive award and Lopez was presented the most improved award.
