LAKE CHARLES-- First year head coach Brooks Donald Williams picked up her first collegiate victory here Thursday night with a 61-50 win over Texas Southern. Courtnee' Hollins led all players with 16 points and Lenissa Lopez added 10.

Hollins made good on four of nine from the field including three 3-pointers and was five of seven from the free throw line. Lopez scored eight of her 10 points from the free throw line and dished out three assists.

Texas Southern (0-4) took a 2-0 lead on the opening basket of the game before Lopez tied the game at two all on the Cowgirls' next possession. Conceita Curtrer's jumper at the 17:42 mark gave the Cowgirls the lead for good and McNeese never trailed from that point on.

Texas Southern tied the game 16-16 with 8:37 left in the first half but Lopez made the first of two free throws for a 17-16 Cowgirl lead. McNeese held a 32-23 halftime.

McNeese (1-8) continued to extend its lead in the second half and went on a 13-6 run to take its largest lead of 16 points (60-44) on a jumper by Reeshimah Davis with 2:23 minutes left to play.

The scoring output was the most points scored by the Cowgirls this season as well as its best shooting night from the field at 35.4 percent. Despite being outrebounded (39-35), McNeese scored 22 points off 22 Texas Southern turnovers and collected 20 points from its bench.

Ne'Aisha Anderson, the Cowgirls' leading scorer and Shante' Perry came off the bench to combine for 18 of the Cowgirls 20 bench points.
