Cowgirls Fall To Houston In Consolation Game
Nov. 25, 2007 The week long road trip and five games in seven days caught up with the McNeese State Cowgirls here Sunday as the Cowgirls fell 87-57 to Houston in the consolation game of the National City Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cowgirls got off to a slow start as Houston took a quick 13-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Marcy Robinson made two free throws with 16:48 left in the first half to put the Cowgirls on the board. McNeese trailed 51-23 at the half after shooting 25 percent from the field. The Cowgirls were called for 15 fouls in the first half and 23 for the game. McNeese made nine of 10 first half free throws and ended the game making 16 of 19 for 84.2 percent. For the third straight game, the Cowgirls had three players score in double digits with Ne'Aisha Anderson, Courtnee' Hollins and Reeshimah Davis all scoring 11. Anderson was three of 13 from the field with all three field goals coming from three-pointers. Anderson scored in double figures in all three tournament games and averaged 12.0 ppg. She made 10 field goals, all coming from three-point land and was perfect from the free throw line, making all six. For her efforts, Anderson was named to the all-tournament team along with Xavier's Ta'Shia Phillips, Houston's Courtney Taylor and Liberty's Moriah Frazee. Triplet sister Megan Frazee was named the tournaments MVP. The taller Houston team outrebounded the Cowgirls 56-26 and 42 of their points came from the bench. McNeese scored 14 points off 25 Houston turnovers and 26 from its bench. McNeese (0-7) will host Texas Southern Thursday night in a 7 p.m. in a non-conference game at Burton Coliseum.
