Cowgirls Fall 67-47 To Jackson State

JACKSON, Ms. Marcy Robinson led McNeese State with 13 points here Monday night in a 67-47 non-conference loss at Jackson State. Robinson was five of 13 from the field including three of four from three-point range. Shante' Perry led the Cowgirls with seven rebounds. The loss drops McNeese to 0-4 on the season while Jackson State picked up its first victory of the season to improve to 1-1.

Jackson State had three players score in double figures and were led by LaSharee Christan's game high 23 points.

Jackson State took an early 2-0 lead on an Eboni Ross layup. Anderson answered with the first of six Cowgirl three-pointers to give McNeese a 3-2 lead at the 17:18 mark. Reeshimah Davis' layup gave the Cowgirls a 5-2 lead with 16:20 left but the Cowgirls couldn't hold on to its lead as Jackson State took the lead for good on a Ross three-pointer with 14:35 remaining in the half. McNeese got as close as 14-13 at the ten minute mark before the Cowgirls' shooting went South. Trailing 18-15 following a Joanna Klutarich layup with 9:14 left in the half, McNeese didn't score again until Kiara Johnson's free throw with 1:43 left in the half. Jackson State held a 36-16 halftime lead.

In the second half, McNeese came out with a full-court press and forced the Tigers to commit 13 turnovers as McNeese slowly cut into the lead. McNeese scored the first eight points of the second half to cut the lead to 36-28. Anderson scored on a layup, Perry added two free throws then back to back three's by Brittany Boone and Conceita Cutrer and then a jumper by Robinson cut the lead to single digits. Jackson State scored the next two baskets to increase the increase the lead back to double digits (40-28). Robinson hit a three to cut the Jackson State lead to single digits (40-31) for the last time in the game.

McNeese will continue on the road to play the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday then will take part in the Xavier National City Invitational on the weekend beginning with a game against Liberty on Friday.
