Gary Blackmon and the Beauregard Country Club hosted members of the McNeese State athletic staff in a golf scramble earlier this week and assistant football coach Carlos McGee was captain of the winning team.

Joining McGee on that winning fivesome were club pro Danny Tilton and club members Charles Hurst, Mike Stainback and Buddy Derouen.

The group posted a 16 under par 56.

The McGee team actually won in a scorecard playoff as the team composed of Cowboy head coach Matt Viator, Blackmon, DeRidder High School coach Eric Parmley, Danny Tatum and Tim Bourgeois also shot 56.

Taking third place with a 57 was the team of Chris Gentry, Wayne Brown, Marc Melancon and Angel Mulero while tying for fourth with 58s were the teams of Jeremy Roy, Ryan Ivey, Dan Manuel, Kelly Durio and Tommy McClelland; Vernon Donihoo, Hubert Boales, John Blankenbaker, Don Dixonand Buck Harris and Dave Wiggins, Steve Taylor, Robbie Unis and Louis Bonnette. Seventh place at 59 went to the team of John Cunningham, John Rudd, Mike Harris, Lark Hebert and Dale Starr.

The event is an annual occurrence hosted by Blackmon and the Beauregard Country Club and goes back to the early 1980s when Ernie Duplechin served as head coach of the Cowboys.
