Buck Harris, a former Cowboy standout, is in his first season as an assistant coach on the staff and will be coaching the defensive tackles.

A native of Carencro, Harris played three years as a defensive tackle and end for the Cowboys and was named team captain his final season. He played on the Cowboys' conference championship team in 2003.

Harris was also twice selected as the university's lifter of the year.

He later played one year of professional football with the Louisiana Swashbuckiers as a fullback.

Harris obtained his degree in Exercise Science from McNeese in 2006.

He played prep ball at Beau Chene High, earning all-district honors as a linebacker and a national ranking as a power lifter.
