John Ford named McNeese basketball MVP for 2007-08 season

April 22, 2008

Senior John Ford was the big winner at the McNeese State basketball banquet on Tuesday.

Ford, a native of Alexandria, was named the team's most valuable player, picking up the Lake Charles Toyota award, and he was also the recipient of the David Wallace assist award, the Dr. David Drez academic award and the Dick Miller free throw trophy.

Ford completed his career with over 1,101 points scored and ranked among McNeese's the top five career wise in assists, steals and three point field goals.

Jarvis Bradley, a senior from Dallas, TX, was the recipient of the William B. Lawton outstanding player award. He also claimed the Dr. Robert Looney rebound award.

Bradley also scored more than 1,000 points in his career (1,004) and this past season led the Cowboys in both scoring and rebounding.

A year ago Bradley was the team MVP and Ford the outstanding player.

The Secondo DiCarlo defensive player award went to Kleon Penn, the Peter Romero newcomer award to Diego Kapelan, the Fess Salter memorial award to Rorey Lawrence, the Joe Dumars award to John Pichon and the Walter Phillips memorial award to Aldryan Wardell.

The Cowboys compiled a 13-15 overall record and finished fourth in the Southland Conference standings this past season, qualifying for the league tournament for the second year in a row.
