Kleon Penn led the Southland and is No. 4 in the nation in blocked shots

March 25, 2008

The blocked shot was one of McNeese State's strong points the past basketball season and it's noted in the final Southland Conference statistics.

Kleon Penn ranked No. 1 in the conference and the Cowboys were No. 1 as a team in blocked shots. Penn had 117 blocks for a 4.0 average and the Cowboys had 180 as a team and a 6.2 average.

Penn is also ranked No. 4 in the nation. Those compilation of those statistics will not be complete until the NCAA tournament is over.

In other conference categories, the Cowboys had two other players rank among the top four.

Jarvis Bradley was fourth in the league in rebounds with a 7.2 average and John Ford was second in three point field goal percentage with a .426 mark and fourth in free throw shooting with an 81.7 percentage.

McNeese was also the only team in the conference to have three players rank among the top 12 rebounders. John Pichon was ninth with a 6.4 average and Penn was 11th at 6.3.

Bradley was the only Cowboy ranked in scoring and he was 12th with his team leading 12.8 mark.

Ford was also 11th in assists with an average of 3.1 per game.

Ford and Bradley also became 1,000 point career scorers for the Cowboys. Ford concluded his career with 1,101 points (now 22nd on the all-time list) and Bradley finished with 1,004 point (24th on the list).

Bradley also finished with 564 rebounds.

Ford also now ranks No. 4 on both the assist and steal all-time McNeese list and is sixth in three point goals made. He had 372 assists in his career, 176 stealsand 136 three point goals.

Penn concluded his career with 165 blocked shots, third on the all-time McNeese chart.
