McNeese Cowboys and Cowgirls will play in SLC tournament

McNeese State's Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball teams will both play in the Southland Conference post season championship tournament this week in Katy, TX. The Cowgirls go in as the seventh seeded team in the women's bracket and the Cowboys are sixth seeded in the men's division. The Cowgirls face No. 2 seeded UT Arlington in a 12 noon match on Wednesday and the Cowboys go up against No. 3 seeded Sam Houston State in a 2:30 p.m. game on Thursday. All action will take place in the Merrell Center in Katy, TX. McNeese's Cowgirls will workout on campus Monday in Memorial Gym at 1 p.m. and then travel to Katy on Tuesday, having a noon workout scheduled at the Merrell Center. The Cowboys will workout Monday and Tuesday on campus in Memorial Gym (3 p.m. each day) and then travel on Wednesday with a 2 p.m. workout scheduled for the Katy High School gym (adjacent to the Merrell Center). Tickets for the tournament are on sale at the McNeese athletic fieldhouse and will be on sale there until Wednesday. Then they will go on sale at the Merrell Center. All McNeese fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in the McNeese section and McNeese ticket manager Peter Colon will be located at the Merrell Center to sell such tickets. McNeese, like all member schools of the Southland, are responsible for the selling of 200 ticket packets to the tournament. A ticket booklet for the tournament is $75 while each session (two games) is $18. Students at Southland Conference schools are admitted on their ID. The top seeded teams in the tournament are Stephen F. Austin for the men and Texas State for the women. Other seeded teams for the men's bracket are Lamar at No.2, SamHouston No. 3, Southeastern Louisiana 4, Northwestern State 5, McNeese 6, UT Arlington 7 and UT San Antonio 8. For the women, the other seeds are UT Arlington 2, UT San Antonio 3, Lamar 4, Stephen F. Austin 5, Northwestern State 6, McNeese 7 and TAM-Corpus Christi 8. The Cowgirls completed their first season under Coach Brooks Donald Williams at 10-20 overall and 8-8 in conference play while the Cowboys were 13-15 overall and 7-9 in league action in their second year under Coach Dave Simmons. |
