Cowboys host Nicholls State in three game SLC series beginning Thursday

March 19, 2008

McNeese State begins a three game Southland Conference baseball series with Nicholls State on Thursday.

First pitch on Thursday and Friday at Cowboy Diamond will be 6:30 p.m. and the two teams will play a third and final game beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Following Saturday's game, an Easter egg hunt for children 12 years of age and under will be held on the field.

The Cowboys will be out to snap a three game losing streak. They dropped their first SLC series last week on the road to Texas-San Antonio. At the same time, Nicholls was winning one of three games with Texas State.

McNeese is 3-14 overall while the Colonels are 4-13.

Sophomore lefthander Tyler Davis is slated to start Thursday's game on the mound for the Cowboys. He's 1-4 with an 8.42 ERA. Two weeks ago he hurled a victory over then ranked Oral Roberts and won the SLC pitcher of the week award.

Shortstop Shon Landry is the Cowboys top hitter with a .333 average and he also leads the team in home runs with four and in RBIs with 20.

The only other Cowboys hitting over .300 are catcher Taylor Freeman with a .325 average and outfielder Sam Merrill at .304. Freeman is listed as questionable for the game due to an injury.

Starting pitchers for the other two games for the Cowboys are expected to be Scott Holstein on Friday and Ryan Frantz on Saturday.
