The McNeese State Cowboys fell by a score of 10-2 to Central Arkansas here Friday night in the opening game of a Southland Conference series between the teams.

The Cowboys and Bears face off against each other on Saturday afternoon with a start time of 1 PM.

The Cowboys fall to 12-34 overall with a SLC record of 6-16 while the Bears improved to 21-23 overall and 9-13 in SLC action.

Tyler Davis was roughed up for the loss to fall to 3-8 on the year, going five innings while giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits while walking two and striking out three.

The Cowboys took an early lead when Keith Patnode reached on a fielding error by the Bears' shortstop and Ryan Brauninger doubled to right center field to bring home Patnode and give the Pokes a 1-0 lead.

Kyle Roth then single to bring home Brauninger and give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning.

It would be short lived however, as the Cowboys gave up single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to tie it, and scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth for the final score of 10-2.

Kyle Roth had three of the Cowboys eight hits to lead McNeese. Nick Eubanks had two hits also for the Cowboys while Sam Merrill, Brauninger and Kanon Broussard had one hit each.

Brauninger and Roth had the only RBIs for the Cowboys with one each.

Todd Fontenot came on in relief of Davis in the sixth inning to pitch the final two innings, giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The two teams face off on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM. Scott Holstein will be on the mound for the Cowboys against Brandon Dunn of Central Arkansas.
