Cowboys bow 3-2 to TAM-Corpus on Friday

TAM-Corpus Christi scored all of its runs on home runs in a 3-2 Southland Conference victory over McNeese State here Friday.

The game kicked off a three game series between the two teams. The next two games will be played as a doubleheader on Saturday since rain is predicted for Sunday. Saturday's first game will start at 1 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m.

Cowboy starter Tyler Davis gave up two runs and four hits over the first two innings of play but after that settled down and hurled four hit and one run ball the final seven frames. He pitched the full nine innings for a complete game and his seventh loss on the season.

Islander reliefer Bryant Sparkman hurled 3.1 innings to gain the pitching victory, his second of the year.

The loss was the 11th in a row for the Cowboys who are now 10-32 on the season. They are also now 5-14 in league play. The Islanders went to 17-25 overall and to 10-9 in the conference.

TAM-Corpus catcher Stehen Flora belted a solo home run in the first inning and leftfielder Jacob Perales followed suit in the second inning.

What turned out to be the winning run for the Islanders scored in the fifth when second baseman Ernie Oloivarez connected on a home run.

McNeese came back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth. Sam Merrill singled in Josh Cholley and Mace Hebert scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the ninth the Cowboys got the tying run on second but could not convert. Brett Gibson hurled the final inning for the Islanders and picked up his fourth save.

Flora and Bryan Gerondale both had two hits each for the Islanders while shortstop Shon Landry was the only Cowboy with a pair of hits.
