San Antonio, TX- The McNeese State baseball team dropped its third straight conference game against UT-San Antonio here this afternoon by a score of 4-1. The Cowboys are now 3-14 on the season with a Southland Conference record of 0-3. The Roadrunners improved to 12-5 on the year with a 3-0 record in SLC play. Ryan Frantz was tagged with the hard luck loss, falling to 0-4 on the year while throwing a complete game, giving up four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out none. Roadrunner Ryan Proudfoot picked up the victory to go to 3-0 on the season. The game was a low scoring affair after the previous two saw the Roadrunners mercy rule the Cowboys on Friday and Saturday. The Roadrunners got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with Trent Lockwood doubling to right field before advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jose Hernandez to make it 1-0. UTSA added the eventual winning run in the third inning on a Tim Palinscar sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 after a balk erased an out made by James Keithly and moved the runner up a base. Keithly went on to single and Palinscar then hit his sacrifice fly on what would have been the third out of the inning. The Roadrunners added two runs in the fifth inning to go up 4-0. The Cowboys broke into the run column in the eighth inning when pinch hitter Jordan Venable led off the inning with a double followed by a Josh Cholley walk. Mace Hebert then reached on a fielder's choice to advance Cholley to second while Venable was put out at third base. Sam Merrill then hit into another fielder's choice, with Hebert being thrown out at second and Cholley advancing to third. While trying to turn the double play during the play, the second baseman for the Roadrunners threw the ball away, allowing Cholley to score and putting the Cowboys on the board with the score 4-1. The Cowboys were able to get the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth after David McChesney and Ryan Brauninger singles, but were unable to bring anyone home and the score finished at 4-1. Leading the Cowboys on the day was Josh Cholley, going two for two with a run scored. Hebert, Shon Landry, McChesney, Brauninger and Venable each had one hit for the Cowboys. The Cowboys play next on Tuesday night against Texas Christian University. After their single game against TCU, the Cowboys return home on Thursday to take on Nicholls State in a SLC series. Games are scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 PM, Friday at 6:30 PM and Saturday at 1 PM due to the Easter holiday on Sunday. |
