March 12, 2008

Box Score

Houston, TX - McNeese State rang up its second straight baseball victory on Wednesday, the Cowboys knocking off Texas Southern by a 15-7 score.

That lifted McNeese's record on the season to 3-11, a mark the Cowboys will carry with them to San Antonio where they will open Southland Conference play in a three game series against Texas-San Antonio on Friday. Friday's game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and they'll play at 3 p.m. on Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Lefthander Tyler Davis, who was named the SLC pitcher of the week for his victory over No. 24 ranked Oral Roberts last Sunday, will start Friday's game with righthander Scott Holstein set for Saturday.

Shon Landry, Nick Eubanks and Sam Merrill led a 16 hit Cowboy attack against Texas Southern. Landry had two hits including a two run homer, his third of the season, while Eubanks also had two hits and smacked a solo shot, his second.

Merrill was the pace setter at the plate with a five for six night along with two RBIs.

Also getting a pair of hits for the Cowboys were Mace Hebert and Josh Cholley.

Dallas Smith, the third of seven McNeese pitchers, picked up the victory, his first of the season against one loss. He pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

Matt Click had started and went 1.3 innings and he was followed by Todd Fontenot, Smith, Travis Bailey, Darrel Stevens, Kyle Bull and Michael Robbins.

The Cowboys scored runs in the first six innings and plated three in both the fourth and the fifth innings and scored four in the sixth.
