Arlington, TX- The McNeese Cowboys lost 26-1 to tournament host UT Arlington here this afternoon in the first game for the team at the UT Arlington Invitational. The Cowboys fall to 1-10 on the season while the Mavericks improve their record to 5-7. The Cowboys scored their only run in the top of the first inning after Sam Merrill and Keith Patnode singled to open the game. Shon Landry grounded out to the shortstop to score Merrill and put the Cowboys up 1-0. That was the closest the game would ever get however, as the Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead. UT Arlington would add three runs in the second, four in the fourth, seven in the fifth, one in the sixth and eight in the seventh innings as they handed the Cowboys their second-worst loss in school history. Ryan Frantz was tagged with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year, going three and two-third innings while giving up 10 runs, seven of them earned, on 10 hits while walking two and striking out two. The Cowboys used a total of eight pitchers in the game, with Josh Marceaux, Darrel Stevens and Nick Eubanks all seeing their first action on the mound in their collegiate careers. Patnode led the Cowboys with three hits while Merrill, Eubanks and Josh Cholley each collected one hit each. Nathan Long was the winner for the Mavericks, going five innings while giving up one run on four hits. He walked two batters while striking out four. The Cowboys are back in action on Saturday afternoon with a 1 PM start against Dallas Baptist. The game has been moved to the home field of Dallas Baptist to accomodate tournament scheduling changes due to weather conditions. |
