Cowboys win second straight game, beating LeMoyne 8-5 on Sunday

Final Stats

Charlie Kingrey and Shon Landry knocked in two runs each and Bryan Cartie tied a school record for walks as McNeese State beat LeMoyne College 8-5 in baseball action here Sunday.

The win was the second in a row for the Cowboys over the Dolphins. They're now 2-9 and LeMoyne stands 1-2.

McNeese, which will tackle Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe on Tuesday, scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth innings. LeMoyne collected single runs in the fourth and ninth frames and plated three in the fifth.

Kingrey, who batted over .400 for the week, led the Cowboys with three hits and he knocked in a pair of runs. Landry had one hit and drove in two runs as the Cowboys only had six hits in the game.

Freshman Jonathan Conrad started the game for the Cowboys but was relieved in the fifth by John Ropp after giving up seven hits and four runs. Ropp gained the victory, his first against one setback.

In 1.2 innings on the mound, Ropp held LeMoyne to only one hit. Tyler Davis came on to pitch one-third of an inning, giving up a hit, while Ryan Frantz hurled 1.2 innings without a hit or run and Danny Davis finished up, pitching the ninth and giving up two hits and one run.

LeMoyne used three pitchers, Eric Beaulac starting and going five innings, giving up only one hit but four runs. Daniel Tunison relieved in the sixth and was the loser after the Cowboys scored two runs and got one hit off him. Ryan Woods pitched the final 2.1 frames giving up four hits and two runs.

The Dolphins kicked the scoring off with a single run in the fourth, Andy Parrino getting on with a single, going to third on a Cowboy error and scoring on a single by Phil St. Amant.

McNeese came back with two runs in its half of the frame, the Cowboys getting those runs without a hit. David Leatherwood scored on an error and Landry scored on a sacrifice bunt by Joe Hulett.

LeMoyne took the lead with three runs in the fifth, a double by Stephen Crawford plating one run and a double by Mike Brown sending two across the plate.

McNeese tied the score with two in the fifth on a two run single by Kingrey and the Cowboys took the lead for good with two in the sixth. Brad Becker doubled in Cartie and then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Leatherwood.

The Cowboys final two runs came in the eighth with Landry singling in a pair of runs. LeMoyne's Chris Haynes belted a solo home run off Davis before the Cowboy closer retired the side.

Cartie's four walks in the game tied the McNeese single game record that had been set in Clint Gould in 1993 against UT San Antonio.
