Cowboys snap losing streak with 10-4 victory over LeMoyne College on Saturday

Final Stats

McNeese State snapped a nine game baseball losing streak here Saturday night with a 10-4 victory over LeMoyne College.

The Cowboys, who had dropped their first nine games of the season, led all the way after opening with a two run first inning. LeMoyne, which defeated the Cowboys on Friday, is now 1-1. The two teams will play a third and final game beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Lefthander Chris Denton started the game for the Cowboys and hurled five innings of four hit, two run ball to gained the pitching victory. He walked two batters and struckout three and had ample offensive help from his teammates.

The Cowboys collected nine hits, three of them extra base shots, with David Leatherwood, Joe Hulett and Taylor Faul all collecting two each.

Charlie Kingrey belted his fourth home run of the season, a three run shot in the bottom of the eighth that sealed the victory.

McNeese opened the scoring with two runs in the first with Hulett singling in Shon Landry and Cartie doubling in Hulett.

In the fourth the Cowboys scored when Faul tripled in Cartie and Thomas Zabasky singled in Faul. McNeese's two runs in the fifth came on an infield error and a sacrifice fly by Jeramie Broussard.

The Cowboys got a single run in the seventh with Faul plating Hulett with a single.

LeMoyne scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings. The Dolphins had a total of eight hits in the game with Stephen Crawford and Andy Parrino getting two each.

Michael Gedman started on the mound for LeMoyne and absorbed the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up five hits and four runs.

The Cowboys used four pitchers in the game. Sam English relieved Denton in the sixth and gave up four hits and two runs while Ryan Frantz gave up two walks without getting an out. Danny Davis came on to pitch two scoreless and hitless innings and got the save.

McNeese had seven stolen bases in the game with Cartie getting three and Hulett two.
