Cowboys drop home opener to Le Moyne College by 3-2 score

Feb. 23, 2007

Final Stats

Le Moyne College prevented McNeese State's Cowboys from having a successful home opener here Friday by posting a 3-2 victory.

The Dolphins, who opened their season in the game, scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh while the Cowboys tallied single runs in both frames.

Righthander Bobby Blevins hurled six innings of four hit, one run ball to take the victory for Le Moyne. He also struckout six batters. Ryan Woods hurled a scoreless 2.1 innings to get the save.

Cowboy starter Derek Blacksher was the loser, dropping his record to 0-2. He pitched 7.2 innings of seven hit, three run ball and struckout six. Danny Davis came on to hurl the final 1.1 innings, walking two and not giving up a hit.

Le Moyne had seven hits in the game with Andy Parrino and Phil St. Amant getting two each. McNeese had five hits and no player got more than one.

Bryan Cartie, Shon Landry, Charlie Kingrey, Taylor Faul and Deron Minor all had hits for the Cowboys.

An infield out drove one Le Moyne run home in the sixth while Robby Perez knocked home the other with a single. What turned out to be the game winning run for the Dolphins came in the seventh with Matt Nandin hitting a triple and coming home on a single by Stephen Crawford.

Rep. Blade Morrish (left) and Sheriff Tony Mancuso leave the mound after tossing out the opening pitch at Friday's McNeese baseball game.

McNeese, which is now 0-9 on the year, got its sixth inning run with Faul singling in Kingrey who had doubled. In the seventh the Cowboys scored on a throwing error by the Le Moyne shortstop.

The two teams are slated to play another game on Saturday and one on Sunday.
