Cowboys lose by a 7-0 score to No. 21 ranked Oklahoma State

Edinburg, TX - McNeese State's Cowboys dropped their second baseball game of the season here Saturday, bowing to No. 21 ranked Oklahoma State by a 7-0 score. The loss came in the second day of the UT Pan American tournament. The Cowboys, now 0-2 on the year, only collected six hits off the combined offerings of Oklahoma State hurlers Oliver Odle and Judd Beno. Odle hurled seven innings of three hit ball and Beno gave up three hits in two frames. David Leatherwood led the Cowboys at the plate with two hits while Brad Becker, Taylor Faul, Jeramie Broussard and Justin Beitzel all had one hit. Broussard's hit was a double. Oklahoma State tallied singles runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings and then got four in the top of the ninth. The Cowboys had a total of 12 hits in the game, six of them extra base hits. McNeese had an opportunity to score in both the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth inning, the Cowboys got runners on first and third with two outs and in the ninth they had runners on second and third with one out. Lefthander Chris Denton started the game for the Cowboys, going six and two-thirds innings and giving up five hits and three runs, all of them earned. He struckout six batters. Sam English came on to pitch one and one-third innings and gave up three hits, Justin LeBleu gave up three hits and four runs in two-thirds of an inning and Todd Fontenot gave up a hit in one-third of an inning. The Cowboys will conclude their performance in the UT Pan American tournament by taking on the host team at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Freshman Jonathan Conrad is slated to start the game on the mound for McNeese. COWBOY NOTES: McNeese State's scheduled home opening three game series with Louisiana Tech beginning Friday at Cowboy Diamond is expected to be moved to Ruston according to Cowboy coach Chad Clement. The coach said that the outfield wall at Cowboy Diamond is not expected to be ready and if that is the case the series will be shifted to Ruston. |
