The new Cowboy assistant coach was a member of Tony Robichaux's staff at Louisiana-Lafayette when the Cajuns went to the College World Series in 2000. He served five years there working with the infielders and with hitting, the Cajuns tying for third place at the World Series.

Gonzales had come out of Cuero High School as one of the top players in the state of Texas, earning all-state honors as a shortstop and also playing on a state champion football team.

He signed with Texas and spent a year and a half there before an injury sidelined him. Coming back from the injury, Gonzales went on to play at Blinn Junior College and spent the final two years of his collegiate career as a shortstop at Louisiana- Lafayette.

Drafted twice by Atlanta during his baseball career, Gonzales picked up his degree from ULL in 1994 and then served two seasons as an assistant coach at Arkansas State, where he earned his master degree, and one at Wharton County Junior College before rejoining the Cajuns as an assistant coach.

For the past four years he has been the head coach at Skidmore-Tynan, leading his team to a runnerup position in the district standings and into the state playoffs.

He and his wife Courtney have three children, twins Roy Grace and Dale Rose and Stevie Marie who is a senior at Louisiana- Lafayette.
