Cross country team travels to Fayetteville for NCAA regionals

Nov. 8, 2007

McNeese State will send a full men's team along with three Cowgirl participants to the NCAA regional cross country meet that will be held Saturday in Fayetteville, AR.

The Cowboys will have eight participants with Mark Hoey leading the way. The Cowgirls will be led by Tinette Burger and Amy Guinn.

"We're hoping for a top 10 finish for the men," said coach Brendon Gilroy.

The Cowboys finished fifth at the Southland Conference meet in their last outing with Hoey claiming a 13th place.

They head into the race with a 13th place ranking in the region.

The men will run a 10K beginning at 10 a.m. and the women will run 6K starting at 11:15 a.m.

It will be the first time this season for both to run the longer distance.

Joining Hoey on the men's team will be Stephen Scullion, Alasdair Russell, Matt Fontenot, Ryan Barrow, Johnathan Koenck, Kenneth Pierce and Jordan Neill.

Guinn led the Cowgirls in the conference meet with a 15th place. Burger was knocked down during the race and was not able to finish. Anna Caffery will also run for the Cowgirls.

Gilroy said that it would probably be a race day decision if Burger and Neill, who is also injured, would run.
