McNeese's cross country teams will take part in Great American Race in Birmingham on Saturday

Oct. 11, 2007

McNeese State's cross country teams will perform in the Great American Race in Birmingham, AL on Saturday.

The Cowboys will send a full team to compete while the Cowgirls will have only four participants.

"We're short one girl on the women's team because of an injury," coach Brendon Gilroy said. "We also have one male runner sidelined but will be able to field a full team of men."

Leading the Cowboys, who are ranked 15th in the South Central Region this week, will be Mark Hoey who has two wins this season.

Tinette Burger, who has won two races for the Cowgirls this year, will be back in action this week after missing last week's Northwestern State outing. Also running for the Cowgirls will be Amy Guinn who won the NSU meet last week.

Joining Hoey for the Cowboys will be Ryan Barrow, Johnathon Koenck, Kenneth Pierce, Alasdair Russell, Stephen Scullion and Matt Fontenot. Jordan Neil will miss the meet because of an injury.

The other two Cowgirl runners will be Anna Caffery and Carly Thurman.

This will be the final tuneup for the Cowboys and Cowgirls prior to the Southland Conference championship race Oct. 27 in Corpus Christi
