McNeese to send three athletes to national junior track and field championship meet

Three McNeese State freshmen track standouts will participate in the U.S. junior track and field championship meet later this week in Columbus, Ohio.

Cowboys qualifying for the event, open only to athletes 19 years of age or younger, are Ben Chretien in the javelin, Jacob Domingue in the shot put and Johnathan Koenck in the steeplechase.

Chretien, a native of Elton, placed third in the javelin during the recent Southland Conference track and field meet. He has a top throw of 204-1 this season.

Domingue, from Erath, placed sixth in the shot put at conference and has a season best of 52-1.

Koenck, from Anacoco, has run a 9:37.16 in the steeplechase this season.

The top three finishers in each event will go on to comprise the U.S. junior team in national competition later this summer.

The meet will run Friday and Saturday.
