McNeese State distance runner Stephen Scullion recently posted a 4:09.57 clocking in a mile run in Ireland.

He finished eighth in the Irish Milers Club race at Tullamore. Olympic vet James Noland won the event in 4:01.02 while David McCarthy was second at 4:01.05 and Mark Christie posted a 4:01.24.

Scullion, a freshman with the Cowboys this past season, was running for the North Belfast Harriers.

The fastest mile posted by a Cowboy runner was in 1971 when Dickie Morgan ran a 4:06.4.

The mile is no longer run in outdoor competition in the USA as all events have gone to meters.
