Cowboys and Cowgirls run at LSU on Saturday

Jan. 17, 2008

Jimmie Heath will make his season debut and John Jamail will attempt to remain undefeated when McNeese State takes part in the LSU Invitational indoor track and field meet on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

The all day event will have Heath and Jamail going off as the Cowboys featured performers, Heath in the pole vault and Jamail in the shot put.

Heath missed out performing last season because of an injury but in the previous year set school records for both indoors and outdoors and became an 18 foot vaulter.

He's been going 17 feet in practice and should once again be one of the top vaulters in the nation.

Jamail won the shot event at the Arkansas Invitational last week and has a season best of 55-6 1/2, the mark at which he won the McNeese Invitational back in December, giving him two wins in two outings indoors for 2008.

John Jamail will be after his third win of the indoor season.

The Brown brothers - Darrick and Marcus - will both perform in the long jump for the Cowboys and should be among the leaders in the event while freshman Tim Guillory, who ranked 20th in the nation last year as a prep triple jumper, will be the lead candidate in that event.

Cowboy weight event record holder Freddie Hannie will enter that event.

McNeese coach Brendon Gilroy said that not all of his runners will be taking part in the event as some are still registering for class and others will take the week off.

Missing the action will be distance runners Stephen Scullion who won the 3,000 meters in Arkansas last week and Amy Guinn who ran second in the women's 3,000 meters.

Kristi McRae and Deanna Jones will be the Cowgirl leaders in the sprints while Erin Hucabay carries a 5-2 best into the high jump and Amy Aguillard and Julie Buller will go in as 10-6 pole vaulters.
