Aug. 2, 2005

John Burnside, who most recently served as an athletic trainer in the NFL Europe football league, has joined McNeese State as an assistant athletic trainer.

Head trainer Jim Murphy made the announcement of the addition of Burnside.

"This will be his first full time position," Murphy said, "but his credentials speak for themselves and he comes highly recommended from athletic trainers who I have known and respected for a long time."

Murphy said that Burnside, who is a native of Miami, will asisst with football, be responsible for baseball and will play a big role in the rehab of athletes.

The 25 year old Burnside is a graduate of Central Florida and received his master degree from LSU.

He served as a student trainer at Central Florida, as a graduate assistant trainer at LSU, as an intern trainer with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and as an assistant trainer with the Cologne Centurions in the NFL Europe football league.
